Mkuzi game
reserve covers 40,000 square hectares and is situated 200 kms north
of the city of Durban on the South East coast of Africa. The land
was proclaimed a reserve on February 15th 1912. Mkuzi supports 78
species of mammals including the Big Five - Elephant, lion, buffalo,
leopard and Rhino, 430 bird species, over 700 plant species
and approx 64 species of reptile. Visitors can go on guided walks
, view animals, including hippo and crocodiles from hides, or drive
themselves around the many roads within the reserve. Mkuzi is ranked
as one of the best birdwatching reserves in Africa.
