St Lucia Wetland
Park is a wetland reserve. Lakes are separated from the sea by a
narrow channel that is rich in hippo & crocodile and many different
species of birds. Animals such as the rare Samongo monkey, various
kinds of antelope, buffalo, elephant, black & white rhino, giraffe
and bushpig can be spotted here. Hippo & crocodile are the two most
often seen water creatures. The coastline is also one of the last
remaining breeding grounds of the leatherback and loggerhead turtles
in the world. The St Lucia wetland park is of great international
importance and has been awarded 'World Heritage Site' status by
the Ramsar Convention.
