Umfolozi is
home to the largest concentration of rhino in the world, with 1600
white rhino and about 350 black rhino, and many other fascinating
African creatures. Having previously been a favourite hunting ground
of the great Zulu King Shaka, and, later of the European settlers
to the area, it is famous for it's efforts to save the endangered
Black & white Rhino from extinction in the 1960's. Umfolozi game
rangers developed the first successful rhino relocation programme,
which has since been used to move many other wild african animals.
